About

Having gained a BA and an MA in fine art, and inspired by a few years of travel, I settled back in England and started painting on silk. After selling scarves to Liberty, I was given my first decorative painting commission in 1994, and never looked back.

Since then, I have worked on numerous projects at home and abroad, often collaborating with interior designers and also with private clients.

My biggest influences were my father, the exceptional decorative artist George Oakes who worked in the traditional English country house style of the 18th Century and also John Fowler, with whom he worked and painted.

I have subsequently worked with many of the interior designers at Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler including Wendy Nicholls, Philip Hooper and Roger Jones. Other clients have included, Jane Churchill Interiors, Colin Orchard Ltd, Imogen Taylor, Joanna Wood, Guy Goodfellow, William Yeoward, Goddard Littlefair, and Mario Buatta.

My work ranges from hand painted wallpapers, to watercolours, oil paintings, screens and chimney boards, hand painted silk and trompe l’oeil.

I also regularly sell paintings and prints through ‘Ramsay’, a gallery in London.

I live by the sea with my family in Hastings, East Sussex .
